Straight answers about air freight, chargeable weight, documentation and shipping with FitMyParcel.
Air freight is generally priced on chargeable weight, which is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Quoted totals usually include freight plus surcharges and handling, and can vary between providers.
Chargeable weight is the higher of two figures: your shipment's actual weight, or its volumetric weight. Airlines use it because bulky, light cargo still occupies valuable space in the aircraft hold.
Volumetric weight estimates how much space cargo occupies. It is calculated as length × width × height (in centimetres) × quantity, divided by a divisor that is typically 6000 for air freight. Rules vary by carrier.
Our team reviews each request and sources options from our logistics network. Timing depends on the route, cargo type and partner availability; we keep you updated as options come in.
